How many times have you worked so hard to lose a few pounds to just gain it right back? How often have you tried to lose weight, and feel that the scale number will not budge? Or when you are looking in the mirror and feel discouraged to see minimal results after all the effort you have put into eating right and exercising? We understand that frustration. In many cases, weight gain can be attributed to more than one cause. Some of these factors include:

Diet

Though bloodwork and food intake analysis, we can determine if certain nutritional deficiencies or surpluses could be playing a role in your weight gain.

Hormone Imbalance

Hormones play a key role in regulating our bodies so when they are not properly balanced, it can lead to weight gain.

Stress & Lack of Sleep

Both stress and sleep have a major impact of our body’s natural functions, so when your body cannot rest and relax properly, it conserves energy by holding onto fat.

Exercise

When you struggle with excess weight, exercise can be difficult both mentally and physically. Working to develop a practical, yet effective, routine for your body and mind can be that boost you need to meet your goals.

Other Underlying Conditions

Conditions like diabetes, heart disease and PCOS can also be a barrier for people trying to lose weight. Addressing these medical conditions can help with weight loss as well.

Customized Treatment Plans

Our Lifestyle Medical Weight Loss Program at La Chelé Medical offers a customized treatment plan for each individual patient. Customized weight loss treatment plans consider many variables.

  • Weight gain / weight loss history
  • Diet and exercise history
  • Medical / family / social / lifestyle history
  • Body composition measurements (lean body mass, percent body fat and visceral fat)
  • BMI calculation
  • Vital signs and targeted physical exam
  • Metabolic lab evaluation (Patients may bring any fasting lab results from within 6 months of their initial consultation appointment for review. Our providers may order additional metabolic lab tests).
  • Individual patient weight loss and weight maintenance goals

Our weight loss providers will synthesize this information and determine the root causes of the weight gain in order to generate an evidence-based, comprehensive weight loss and weight maintenance treatment plan. They will collaborate with each patient to develop a sustainable diet and exercise program. They may also prescribe weight loss medications as a part of the treatment plan. The ultimate goal is healthy and sustainable weight loss in order to prevent or treat weight-related medical conditions.

Lifestyle Medical Weight Loss Frequently Asked Questions

In the hands of experienced medical weight loss providers, medical weight loss is safe and effective. Our providers will develop a weight loss plan that allows you to lose weight at a healthy rate, while nourishing your body and maintaining muscle mass. Medical weight loss will also lead to improvement in overall health by preventing or improving many weight and obesity–related health conditions.

We recommend monthly follow up appointments during the first six months of the program. Follow up appointments are recommended every 2 – 3 months for the rest of the first year. Once patients reach their goal weight, follow up appointments are recommended every 3 – 6 months. For convenience, we offer both in person and virtual (Zoom / Telehealth) appointments. Between visits, you will have direct access to your provider for additional support.

It can be challenging to maintain weight loss long-term without proper guidance from a trained medical professional. Our weight-loss providers will ensure that you are staying on track with your diet and exercise plan and adjust weight loss medications as needed to successfully maintain your weight loss. Working together, we will troubleshoot any obstacles that you may encounter and help to keep you motivated. It is possible to achieve long-term weight loss!

Some conditions and circumstances that may contribute to weight gain or difficulty losing weight include:

  • Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)
  • Hypothyroidism
  • Hypercortisolism / Cushing’s syndrome
  • Perimenopause and menopause
  • Sleep disorders / lack of sleep
  • Certain medications
  • Genetic predisposition to insulin resistance
  • Insulin resistance happens when your pancreas produces higher levels of insulin to maintain blood sugar levels. Elevated insulin can lead to fat being stored as visceral fat, which is more challenging to burn and can create weight loss difficulties. There is a genetic predisposition to insulin resistance and certain medical conditions and aging can exacerbate insulin resistance.

No, our program is completely customizable. Your treatment plan will be designed to align with your specific needs and wellness goals. You and your provider will work together to decide on the best approach for you.

Decreased appetite

By sending signals to the hunger center in the brain, decreasing appetite and “food noise.”

Prolonged fullness

Slowing down how food leaves the stomach and travels through the GI tract.

Blood sugar regulation

By improving insulin sensitivity and decreasing insulin resistance.

Decreased visceral fat

Improving insulin sensitivity unlocks visceral fat stores.

Other health benefits include

  • Heart, brain, and kidney protection.
  • Treatment of type 2 diabetes, fatty liver, and obstructive sleep apnea.
  • Studies are also being done to look at the beneficial effects of GLP-1 and GLP-1/GIP medications on memory, cognition and addiction.
  • Nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea
  • Fatigue and lightheadedness
  • Low blood sugar (only if on multiple medications for diabetes)
  • Mood changes (uncommon and not usually related to medication itself)

*Our experienced medical weight loss providers know how to titrate these medications to prevent or minimize potential side effects.

Yes. GLP-1 and GLP-1/GIP medications are contraindicated for individuals with:

  • Medullary Thyroid Cancer
  • MEN-2 Syndrome
  • Pancreatitis of unknown origin
  • Pregnancy and during breastfeeding (women of child-bearing age are counseled to use an effective form of contraception)

With so many companies claiming to have the “next best thing,” it can be hard to distinguish between what is legitimate and what is not. The rise of counterfeit GLP-1 and GLP-1/GIP drugs is a major concern. They may be marketed as authentic, but they may contain harmful or ineffective ingredients—sometimes too much, too little, or none of the active ingredient at all. At La Chelé, we prioritize your safety by only prescribing FDA-approved weight loss medications. If insurance does not cover weight loss medication, we will work with you to minimize the out-of-pocket cost.

Our providers can also prescribe other types of weight loss medications to help with appetite suppression and cravings.

  • Phentermine
  • Qsymia (Phentermine + Topiramate)
  • Contrave (Bupropion + Naltrexone)
  • Metformin

Currently, we do not work accept insurance. However, we are happy to provide documentation to help you seek reimbursement from your insurer. We recommend reaching out to your insurance carrier ahead of time to determine if reimbursement for wellness is an option.

Yes, we accept both HSA and FSA cards for your convenience.
